West Seattle Art Walk
Rachel's art will be on display at the Log House Museum as part of the West Seattle Art Walk on Thursday, June 12, from 5pm to 8pm.
About the Log House Museum:
The Southwest Seattle Historical Society was founded in 1984 by West Seattle resident and White Center real estate broker Elliott Couden. Founding members chose to dedicate this organization to historic preservation, heritage education, and community service for the Duwamish peninsula, including West Seattle and White Center.
The museum has been open since November 13, 1997, the 146th anniversary of the Alki landing in 1851. The landscaping consists of native plants. A granite and marble donor circle adorns the courtyard in tribute to the many people and organizations helping to make this heritage project an award-winning facility and a community treasure.
The Southwest Seattle Historical Society acknowledges that the Log House Museum is on the traditional land of the dxʷdəwʔabš (Duwamish) people, past and present. The museum is built from logs which grew on the land before the arrival of non-Native peoples. We honor with gratitude the land and the people who have stewarded it throughout the generations.
About the West Seattle Art Walk
The West Seattle Art Walk is a celebration of local artists, galleries, and businesses coming together to showcase the rich tapestry of artistic talent in our neighborhood. Held every second Thursday of the month, this event invites you to explore a diverse array of artistic expressions, from paintings and sculptures to photography and mixed media installations.
Rachel is honored to be the first artist hosted by the Log House Museum during their first quarter participating in the West Seattle Art Walk. Please join us this Thursday, June 12 at 5pm!
Wild & Tame Exhibition
With her painting titled Float, Rachel Bender is a finalist in Blue Koi Gallery's juried art exhibition, Wild and Tame, "where artists explore the balance between chaos and control, nature and structure, raw energy and refined technique."
Float is part of Rachel's series titled Into the Deep, which is a collection inspired by nature’s most powerful element: water. Each piece has deep, dark blues arching and flowing; a love letter to vastness of the sea. The wood canvases emphasize the separations between wood and water; solid and liquid; land and sea; control and uncertainty. Each piece grows in size, with the largest piece, 'Ocean', being 6 feet long; her towering wave against the wood 'skyline' was the perfect finale - the quintessential deadly wave.
Opening April 15, 2025, see the exhibit here: Blue Koi Gallery - Wild and Tame Exhibition.
